Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 ball of fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions

  • Arrange the ingredients: On a serving platter, layer the tomato slices, mozzarella slices, and basil leaves.  
  • Make the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper.
  • Drizzle and serve: Drizzle the dressing over the salad. If desired, drizzle with balsamic glaze for an extra touch. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use ripe, juicy tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Fresh mozzarella is key to this recipe. Avoid using pre-shredded mozzarella.
  • Feel free to add other ingredients to your Caprese salad, such as avocado slices, roasted peppers, or olives.
  • This salad is best served fresh, but it can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours.
