Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 oz Crushed tomatoes canned
  • 6 oz Tomato paste canned

Cheese Mixture

  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 9-12 Lasagna noodles oven-ready
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Layer lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce, repeating layers until all ingredients are used. Top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with 1 (15 ounce) can of lentils, drained and rinsed. You can also add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms to the meat sauce for extra flavor and nutrients.
